Nice to meet you

My Story

Hi, I’m Kristen—an Army veteran, single mom of two girls, and the voice behind They Call Her KK.

Today, I’m building what people call a soft life—but not in the way social media makes it look.

For me, a soft life isn’t about luxury or escaping responsibility.

It’s about creating peace after years of pressure, survival, and learning how to carry more than I ever thought I could.

If you’re here because you’re searching for what a soft life really means—or how to find one after hard seasons—you’re in the right place.

From Sorority Girl to Soldier

My story doesn’t follow a straight line.

I went from sorority life at LSU to serving in the U.S. Army as a broadcast journalist. From college parties to combat zones. From carefree to carrying responsibility in ways most people never see.

That chapter of my life became the foundation for something bigger—my story, Sorority Soldier.

Sorority Soldier is more than a title. It’s the reality of being both:

  • feminine and fierce
  • lighthearted and resilient
  • soft and strong

Because I was never just one version of myself—and I think a lot of women can relate to that.

Life After the Army

Like many veterans, coming home wasn’t simple.

There’s a version of you that exists in survival mode—and then there’s the version of you trying to live a normal life again. And those two don’t always align right away.

I learned how to function. I learned how to succeed. But I didn’t always know how to rest.

And for a long time, I thought that was just the way life worked.

The Shift to Soft Life

At some point, I started asking a different question:

What if life isn’t supposed to feel this heavy all the time?

That’s when everything began to shift.

A soft life, for me, means:

  • choosing peace over chaos

  • setting boundaries without guilt

  • letting things be easy when they can be

  • and no longer living in constant survival mode

This isn’t about being weak. It’s about being wise with your energy.

And for women who have lived through hard things—this kind of life doesn’t come naturally. It’s something we have to intentionally build.

Single Mom Life + Healing

I’m raising two daughters while also learning how to take care of myself in ways I didn’t before.

Single mom life is full. It’s busy. It’s sometimes overwhelming.

But it’s also where I’ve learned some of my greatest lessons about:

  • resilience

  • boundaries

  • healing after hard relationships

  • and redefining what strength actually looks like

Because strength isn’t just pushing through anymore.

Sometimes, strength is choosing peace. Sometimes, it’s walking away. Sometimes, it’s resting.

Why I Created This Space

I created this space for women who are:

  • tired of carrying everything

  • healing from hard seasons

  • learning to set boundaries

  • and ready to build a life that feels good, not just looks good

Whether you found me through TikTok, motherhood content, or searching for what a soft life really means—you’re not alone in this.

You don’t have to prove your strength anymore.

You’re allowed to build a life that feels soft, peaceful, and fully your own.

What is Sorority Soldier?

Sorority Soldier is the story I’m still telling.

It’s my journey from college life to the Army, through deployment, motherhood, and everything in between. But more than that, it’s about identity.

It’s about learning you don’t have to choose between being strong or soft, feminine or capable, resilient or at peace... You can be all of it.

And that’s the message behind everything I create.

A jeopardy question?

I, too, think this is nuts.

Stories that reached beyond me

Before I ever talked about soft life or motherhood, I was telling stories in a very different environment.

As an Army broadcast journalist, I served during deployment in Iraq, capturing stories that most people back home would never see. From reporting on daily life in a war zone to being one of the only American women inside Saddam Hussein’s courtroom, my role was to document history as it was happening.

Those experiences shaped how I see the world, how I tell stories, and ultimately, how I found my way back to myself.

They’re also a big part of the story behind Sorority Soldier.
